People in prison often feel lonely, cut off from their families. In Hydebank Prison, members organise craft classes, which offers an opportunity to chat with and encourage the prisoners. The prisoners so far have made jewellery, Christmas cards and ‘no-bake’ cakes.
“One lady told us she had been in prison for five years, and no-one had ever done any thing like this for her before and she now really looks forward to her Thursday evenings”
The families too appreciate the gifts, as it assures them that their absent mother, father, or other relative is thinking of them.
Please consult with prison staff to check which craft items can be used. This varies from prison to prison.
