There are four Groups within Birmingham Mothers’ Union. They are responsible for different areas of our work and are led by the following Group Coordinators:
Eric Swindells – Action & Outreach
This is the largest Group in the Diocese. Eric has the job of coordinating the leaders of the various projects within the Group. These projects include Women’s Aid, Baby Project, Refugee Support, Prison Project, Parenting and Marriage Support. These areas of our work are all ably led by hard working and dedicated members.
Under the umbrella of the Action and Outreach Group is also Elizabeth Walker, our Worldwide Rep. She maintains our global links as a worldwide organisation.
Finally under this Group Jill Harris looks after the Away From It All (AFIA) scheme.
Ann Wilis – Faith & Policy
The Group Coordinator is responsible for our spiritual guidance within the Diocese; ably overseeing all services for Diocesan events and Members’ Meetings and arranging and giving input to quiet days and days of reflection. Our Group Coordinators could not do their work without the guidance and support of the Diocesan Chaplain and the Indoor Members representative.

Fundraising & Communications
The vital work of fundraising in the Diocese and the Group acts as a funnel for the many wonderful initiatives that come out of Mary Sumner House.
The other branch of the work in this Group relates to Communications. We aim to raise the presence of Birmingham Mothers’ Union in local media and social media. This Group also includes Editors of Birmingham Link and Christine McAteer the Diocesan Secretary. The Facebook Administrator Kit MacLachlan. Peter Johnson – Finance & Administration
Peter is at the helm as Coordinator of this very necessary Group. This Group works quietly away making sure the wheels are oiled and we can function in the Diocese.
Others in the Group are the Diocesan Secretary, Christine McAteer, Margaret Howlett who is Christine’s line-manager and oversees administration and Peter is Honorary Diocesan Treasurer.
Within this Group the Mothers’ Union Enterprise reps work tirelessly in supplying and selling MU Enterprise goods. They do this at every possible opportunity to raise the profile of Mothers’ Union and make a little more money for the Diocese. Adrian Harris our Gift Aid Administrator reclaims what he can from the Inland Revenue to also swell the coffers.
