PADOVA, ITALY

Meetings are held on the last Saturday each month starting at 4 p.m.

at St Anthony Abbot Anglican Church, Padova, Italy.

The Mothers’ Union of St Anthony Abbot began with 11 members in 2006! Later, the group was inaugurated on 18th of February 2006. Presently there are 32 members that belong to this group. The union has since its inauguration participated in the worldwide celebration of the Mother’s Day which they normally do wearing their uniform (THE CENTENARY). Both the general and prayer meetings are conducted monthly where members contribute their dues to help with fiancial responsiblities.

Members of the group participate in the affairs of the church in such activities as

1. Keeping the church tidy

2. Overseeing of the Children’s ministry. The Children’s ministry of the Church was in fact established by the Mothers’ Union. Duties were at first rotated amongst women but after much consideration, four teachers were permanently appointed under voluntary basis to take care of the Children. Since then, the children’s ministry has grown both in number and strength. They often participate in Church services and programs. For example, during Harvests, Baptisms, Mothers’ Day , Childrens’ Day, Christmas services, Carols and others.

3. Church Harvest celebrations, Ordination services, Mothers’ day, and other church functions where they take care of the cooking, cleaning, pin-ups, presentations and others.

Activities that have reflected the aims and objectives of mothers Union
1.Help with the childrens’ ministry encouraging life and faith of Children
3. A donation and visit to a member whose family has met with adversity
4. The union has always participated in the worldwide January fasting and prayer.(wave of prayer) . That of this year was concluded in a meeting by members who unitedly closed the prayer together.

2011 MOTHERS’ DAY CELEBRATION, RE-DEDICATION OF PADOVA BRANCH, DEDICATION OF LOCAL MAGAZINE PROJECT

Since the inauguration of the Mothers’ Union branch, it has had its own share of ups and downs, joys and sorrows, success and failures, problems and breakthroughs; it was in the heat of one of these failures that a decision was made by the Church Council to resolve and start afresh a new Mothers’ Union of St Anthony Abbot Anglican Church. This year during the annual MOTHERS’ DAY CELEBRATION held on the 3rd of April, the Union was again dedicated by the priest Reverend Sampson Ajuka who prayed for both new and old members that we be empowered to take our stand as members of the Mothers’ Union. It was truly a momentous occasion .The theme of our day was WOMEN WHO FOLLOW JESUS .  It was equally on this day that the women dedicated a LOCAL MAGAZINE project! It is noteworthy to announce that during the occasion a lot of fund was realized by the union through the selling of the magazines which basically contained all that was done on that day and other interesting articles and information; and the history of the union has since then been upgraded! This is absolutely fantastic! It has solved to a large extent the financial challenges which the Branch has had to face since its incipient stages.

On the 18th of February, our branch completed 5 years! There was a serious thought on the progress, achievement, success and increase of the branch. A seminar was thus scheduled.  Furthermore during one of our monthly meetings held precisely in July, we spotted an article written by EUNICE LUCAS, THE PROVINCIAL PRESIDENT OF SOUTH AFRICA in the JULY TO DECEMBER NEWSLETTER. The title was GROWING MOTHERS’ UNION. This thus added more intensity and effectiveness to our seminar. The article came right on time! It was really needed! During this seminar, we carefully noted the areas where we have excelled and what helped, the areas we have failed and the causes; after which we came to a certain conclusion. We equally discussed the importance of discipleship and the role of prayer.

MARY SUMNER DAY – August 9th

This was on of our major activities of the year because it was really a time of focused prayer and short retreat. The study from Romans 12 was indeed challenging, yet enlightening and refreshing. We all loved and appreciated this.
