We believe that children of any age need to know that, although Mum or Dad may be away from home for a long time, they are still remembered and loved.
Working alongside The Prison Fellowship, Mothers’ Union members buy Christmas gifts for children of parents in prison.
Each gift is carefully selected, wrapped and sent by post to a named child as if bought and sent by the absent parent. A Christmas card is included from the parent who knows that the gift has been purchased on their behalf.
Members meet up before Christmas, to wrap the gifts, then prepare them for posting, making sure that each gift is sent to the right child, while maintaining full confidentiality.
It is important that children do not feel forgotten during the absence of a parent, and we know these gifts help to maintain important family bonds ready for the parent’s release and return home.
