   Our President’s visit

‘On the 26th February I was at Mary Sumner House in London, at a meeting of the Diocesan Presidents of Britain and Ireland.

There was a presentation from our new Worldwide President Sheran Harper, an introduction to the new Worldwide Board, and an update from our CEO Bev Jullien on the Mother’s Union in Britain and Ireland.

My day at Mary Sumner House confirmed to me that the Mother’s Union is a Worldwide Christian charity that steps out in prayer to support and empower families were ever they may live’ Gail.

Sharing Evening with Marion Pope

On Friday 19th April, 2013 we had a good evening with Marion thinking about the work of Mothers Union to help transform families and communities. We were reminded of the three pronged strategy of Praying, Enabling and Campaigning.

We spent most of the time thinking and sharing about how we can help to transform families and communities here on the island, and how we can grow our organisation.

Rev. Paul becomes Canon

Congratulations to our Chaplain Rev Paul Mothersdale, Vicar of Malew and Santon, who on Sunday 10th March 2013, became a member of the Cathedral Chapter when he was installed as residentiary Canon in the seat of St Columba.

Bishop Michael Burrows from our linked diocese of Cashel and Ossory gave a cracking sermon about the mysteries and significance of traditional church ceremonies, and the serious responsibilities of the role of a Canon.

Worship music was led by the Cathedral Choir and Choristers, and the Abbey Church Choir, Ballasalla. Thanks to Orry Mitchell for the photo of Canon Colin Finney, Warden of Readers; Mrs Jackie Mothersdale, Paul Mothersdale, Bishop Robert and Canon Peter Robinson.

Teabags at the Terminal

We had a wonderful time drumming, decorating boxes which we used to build a house, tried tastes of Malawi, wrote messages on a graffiti wall & Facebook, did quizzes and jigsaws, with lots of different families. We raised £455 which was great and it was so good to share about Mothers’ Union and the Malawi project with people who knew nothing about MU. You can see lots more photos on our Facebook page Mothers’ Union Isle of Man.

 Advent Carol Service

The theme of the service was ‘Looking for Light’ and the beauty of the lighting and artistic creations in the Cathedral added to the worship experience.

Mothers’ Union exhibition Aug. 8th-31st 2011 at the Cathedral in Peel.

The exhibition celebrated the 102nd anniversary of the Peel branch of the Mothers’ Union. The exhibition in the cathedral took six months to arrange and organise. It included 12 different stations, Mothers’ Union banners by the four mission partnership areas in the island, artefacts associated with MU in the treasury and stalls. Helen Parry, diocesan president, said: ‘I would encourage everyone to come and see the exhibition. It values the history, but also they can see the modern outlook. Particularly with our school campaign. I think they will be surprised.’ Some of the stations include Peel Branch history, children and families and marriage: loving for life.

Evening with Grainne Burns at Braddan on 14th June 2011 with Strawberries &  Wine/Shloer

A very interesting evening was spent hearing about the work of the island’s Youth Service. We heard how they use virtual babies to teach young people about how to look after babies both on Baby Sitting Courses and with teenage mothers to be. We also enjoyed the tasty strawberries and cream and a glass of Shloer!! The evening was organised as a follow up to MU buying virtual babies for our secondary schools and the IOM College in 2005 anyone remember being at this presentation?
