MALTESE ISLANDS

Joint Leaders: Linda Henry / Susan Warner

Meetings are generally held on the third Monday each month.

Starting with coffee between 10.00 – 10.30 am followed by the Speaker, and Prayer Time, finishing at 12 noon

The regular branch meeting on Monday 20th November at the Paradise Bay Hotel.

We were joined by Nikki Sweatman, our Provincial President and her husband. Nikki gave us an update on the activities of the world-wide trustees and it was interesting to hear what is happening at the world-wide level of
this huge organisation of ours. Members thanked Viv for her work in coordinating the Christmas boxes, to be distributed at Christmas on our behalf, by the Order of Malta to 11 needy Gozo families. Members had the happy extra task of allocating additional support to other organisations due to the very successful fundraising this year, Items will be purchased for Ghabex, the domestic violence refuge, the Malta Food Bank, and a Christmas cake for OASI. All are welcome to the Advent Carol Service at 11am on 5th December, followed by lunch, price €17. Booking for the lunch is essential – contact Susan on 79074152.
Our next branch meeting will be on 16th January at PBH.

Our members live on both of islands where they take an active part in the full life of the three local congregations. Traveling to meetings on the opposite island involves a sea crossing which can be difficult in inclement weather. However meetings are usually well attended and are also supported by regular visiting members from the UK. The fund raising family-based projects are well supported by all members who continually look for new ideas and recipients within the islands and worldwide.

As a Branch we have always believed our strength is our loyalty to each other, no matter what circumstances we find ourselves in, our total commitment to uphold Mothers Union aims and objectives and to do everything for and in His name.

The Leader and Secretary stood down from office at the AGM in December due to family circumstances and they have returned to UK. Four new members were enrolled at the AGM and the current membership are evaluating how the branch will move forward into 2013.

Branch members are presented with a CD by members of Steynton MU in the Diocese of St Davids, Wales visiting Gozo with the Neyland Ladies Choir from Pembrokeshire on a wet Tuesday of Easter Week !
